Forecast Day 2 Highlights

Welcome to Day 2 @ Forecast 2013! Yesterday was a blast and the agenda for today holds the same promise. Read further for a quick overview of today's highlights and use the ODCA mobile app to help plan your day.

The second day of Forecast 2013 begins with Harper Reed's addressing the audience. This is the talk many of us have been eagerly waiting for! Harper Reed, CTO of the Obama for America 2012 campaign will deliver the luminary keynote and describe how data analytics, cloud and big data were a big part of the successful campaign. He will also share his perspective on how we manage cloud implementations today and how we can better harness the power of data.

Once again, Day 2 has three technical tracks. The track dedicated to panels will host discussions on hot topics such as Getting all that value out of Big Data, Is Private Cloud here to Stay?, Security in the cloud and feature customers, representatives from standards organization and industry experts. The panels provide a wonderful opportunity for attendees to listen to what our experts have to say to questions about adoption of cloud.

The second track hosts technical deep dives. In a session titled "Secure Monitoring and Management of Workloads in the Cloud with Savvis", speakers Ken Owens and Albert Caballero will showcase a new hardware level security solution designed to report workload trust status and geo-location. Following this, Pankaj Fichadia and Das Kamhout will walk us through the new Information as a Service (IaaS) Usage Model. The last session in this track features Dr. Randy Garrett's discussion on DARPA's big data analytics projects.

Presenters Catherine Spence, Freeman Ratnam, Ravi Giri, Jeff Sedayao and Sudip Chahal are hosting a an interactive learning workshop to guide architects and developers on designing cloud aware applications. They will share their experiences around how Intel IT is helping development teams move to the cloud. Also, Digital nibbles will be recording live at the venue. Hosts Allyson Klein and Reuven Cohen will be talking to our presenters and attendees are welcome to participate and pose questions. Definitely a special opportunity for Forecast 2013 attendees!

Forecast Day 1 Highlights

Today is Day 1 of Forecast 2013! As you read this blog post sipping that first cup of coffee, the Forecast team is putting the final touches and we are getting ready to welcome you all! Our Speakers, presenters, panelists, sponsors have all gathered at the Westin St.Francis in San Francisco to prepare for an exciting array of talks and discussions that will cover a wide range of topics. Over the next two days, you will hear about the phenomenal progress that the open data center alliance and its members have made since Forecast 2012.

The day begins with a welcome session by Das Kamhout, technical workgroup advisor. In this opening talk, Mr. Kamhout will provide an overview of the ODCA Usage Models and lay the foundation for technical deep dives that will follow. ODCA Chairman and BMW Vice President of IT Infrastructure, Mario Müeller, will showcase ODCA's accomplishments over the past year in his keynote talk and outline BMW's plans for cloud computing and the influence of the ODCA Usage Models on the company's private cloud strategy. The keynote will kick-off the 2-day experience for our conference attendees, and set the stage for gathering insights from leading enterprises and providers on the implementation of enterprise-ready cloud.

Three technical tracks run through the day and feature topics such as Service Orchestration, Security Data Protection, VM interoperability and others. Panels on Software defined data centers, Business Transformation for Enterprise IT and the promise of VM interoperability will bring together customers, representatives from standards organization and industry experts for thought provoking discussions. Lockheed Martin, T-systems, National Australia Bank, Cisco and Dell will share stories about their cloud deployment successes through Q&A sessions.

This year, we have over 500 registrants who bring together diverse experiences and learning around cloud and big data.
